Skip Beat! (スキップ・ビート! Sukippu Bīto!) is a shōjo manga by Yoshiki Nakamura. It includes elements of romance and comedy with a show business theme. The manga began publication in Hana to Yume by Hakusensha in 2002.Viz Media began publishing the story 2006.
The series has been adapted into several drama CDs, as well as an anime and a live-action Taiwanese television drama.
Premise[]
Kyoko Mogami is a young in love with her childhood friend, Sho Fuwa. She loves him enough to follow him to Tokyo to help him pursue his dream. Everything changes when Kyoko learns he basically used her as a "house maid". Kyoko vows to get revenge by entering show business and becoming more famous then him.
She enters the talent agency, L.M.E., a rival of Sho's agency. There she meets the kind professional actor, Ren Tsuruga, who Sho considers a rival. Ren dislikes her motives for entering show business, but eventually warms up to her.

Skip Beat! by Yoshiki Nakamura began serialization in Hakusensha's Hana to Yume on February 15, 2002. The series has a total of thirty-seven volumes and one fanbook. Viz Media licensed the manga for North American release and have published thirty-five of the volumes so far. Additionally, Viz has re-released the series into nine VIZBIG (3-in-1) volumes.

The series was adapted into a popular anime in 2008. It was directed by Kiyoko Sayama and aired from October 5, 2008 to March 29, 2009 for a total of twenty-five episodes.

Television drama[]
Plans for a Taiwanese drama adaptation titled Extravagant Challenge were announced in 2008. The project suffered several financial set-backs and was pushed into development hell. In 2011, the drama began filming with Ivy Chen and Choi Siwon in the lead roles. It aired from December 18, 2011 to April 1, 2012 on FTV Main Channel in Taiwan.
